SICILY, Syracuse, (c.450-439 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.17 g), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer, Nike flying left crowning driver, plain exergue, rev. **SUPAK O S* I O N around, head of Artemis-Arethusa to right, hair in korymbos under a diadem band, four dolphins around, (cf.S.931, Boehringer 690 [obv. V342, rev. R468], SNG Lockett 3515 [This Coin], Pozzi 593 [same dies], McClean 2689 [same dies]). Well centred, grey tone, good very fine and very rare.
Ex Brian Jamieson Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 86 (lot 3277) and previously from Giessener Munzhandlung Auction Sale 102, May 24, 2000 (lot 80) and previously from Dr. Busso Peus Auction Sale 340 November 2, 1994 (lot 131) the Nicholas V.
