PHOENICIA, Tyre, (c. 2nd century B.C. - 1st century A.D.), silver shekel or tetradrachm, (14.32 g), Tyre mint, issued year 51 = 76-75 B.C., obv. laureate head of Melqarth beardless to right, dotted border, rev. eagle to left with closed wings, carrying a palm, standing on prow of ship, club to left, above AN, A in right field, around **TUR OU IERAS KAI ASULOU*, dotted border, (S.5918, Cohen [p.503, reports date as C], Rouvier 2037, cf.BMC 143 [p.243], H.1618 [817]). Lightly toned, slightly off centred reverse, otherwise extremely fine/good extremely fine, scarce.

A coin type often described as one of the thirty pieces of silver paid to Judas to betray Christ.
