GILBERT AND ELLICE ISLANDS, Oceania, WWI patriotic medalets, 1916, in brass (25.4mm) (2), the first a thin (1mm) variety with legend 'For King & Empire', the second a thick (2mm) variety with legend 'For The King & The Empire', both with official pierced hole at top edge for loop ring. Some mint bloom along with toning and light moisture toning near edge, otherwise nearly uncirculated. (2)

On 1 January 1976 the Gilbert and Ellice Islands became the separate countries of Kiribati and Tuvalu.
