SICILY, Syracuse, reign of Hieron II, (275-215 B.C.), AE 27, (15.78 g), obv. diademed head of Hieron beardless to left, dotted border, rev. horseman prancing to right, holding spear couched, beneath **F*, in exergue IEP**WNOS*, (S.1221, Calciati II, [p.383, 195], SNG Morcom 824, SNG ANS 944). Dark tone, nearly extremely fine and a rare variety.
