LOCRI OPUNTI EPIKNEMIDIA, (369-338 B.C.), silver stater, (12.18 g), obv. head of Persephone to left, wreathed with corn, wearing ear-ring, rev. Ajax son of Oileus, naked but for helmet, advancing to right, holding sword and large shield, decorated with snake, twig below, around OPONTIW N, (cf.S.2326, BMC -, SNG's Fitz 2801 (same rev. die), McClean -). Toned, nearly extremely fine and very rare.

Ex CNG Mail Bid Sale 64 24 September 2003 (lot 177) and previously the New York Sale III, 7 December 2000, (lot 135).
