PALESTINE, Judaea, King Agrippa II under Vespasian, (A.D. 56 [50] - 95), AE 26, (20.47 g), Provincial coinage acknowledging Roman rule, probably struck at Caesarea Paneas, issued year 26 of Agrippa's first era = A.D. 74-75, obv. laureate head to right of Vespasian, around AYTOK PA OYEC[**P*ACI KAICAP]I CEBACT**W*, starting upper right, rev. Tyche standing to left on base holding ears of corn and cornucopiae, across ETOY KC BA/ **[A]GRI PP[A]*, (S.5582, RPC II 2274, AJC II 30 [p.254, Pl.14], H.1282, Meshorer 158b [p.143, Pl.XIV]. Nearly very fine/good fine and very rare.
RPC notes only five. This example is heavier than all the published pieces. The denomination of this coin is uncertain and RPC groups the issue to the heavier group. RPC places the issue to 85-86 although Vespasian died in 79 A.D.. and the issue is clearly not a Divi issue of Vespasian. The current thinking places the issue as beginning in 50 A.D. with the accession of Agrippa in that year.
