MM: LG 18/7/1917, p7288, posn 49; CAG 8/11/1917, p2943, posn 24.

Recommendation: In the Hindenburgh Line near Bullecourt, France during the period 5th - 9th May 1917 Private Halliday did gallant work as a Company runner. Under the most severe barrage the enemy put down whilst the Battalion was in the line when all telephone lines were cut and other means of communication had failed this man volunteered to carry an urgent and extremely important message to Battalion Headquarters.

Absolutely regardless of all danger he moved straight through the shell swept zone, delivered the message, and without pausing for rest hurried back again with instructions for his Company in the front line. This was only one of many instances of the great devotion to duty by Private Halliday.

Bertie James Halliday, bank clerk, age 21, born at Strathalbyn, Sth Aust; Enl.13Jun1916 at Adelaide, Sth Aust; Emb.12Aug1916; accidentally injured knee and RTA 15Apr1918; Disch.27Jun1918.
