GERMANY, WWI Hessian Christmas Medal, 1916, in white metal (oval 34x25mm), obverse, 'Treue Segenswunsch u. Gedenken' (Christmas Wishes of Loyalty), reverse, 'Eleonore Ernst Ludwig 24.XII.1916'. Good very fine.
This medal was given to WWI German Hessian soldiers for Christmas 1916 by the Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig of Hesse and his wife Princess Eleonore. The date of 24 December is used as Christmas Eve is the time that Europeans celebrate the arrival of Christmas.
