NEW SOUTH WALES, five shillings or holey dollar, 1813, struck on a Charles IIII Mexico City Mint eight reales, 1792FM (Mira-Noble 1792/3; dies A/1:I/6) (Spalding 35). Countermarks well struck, H for Henshall clearly defined, nearly extremely fine, coin good very fine with slight oxidised area at 2 o'clock on the obverse, even dark blue grey tone, very rare and desirable in this condition, one of the top fifteen examples known.
Ex E.Wodak Collection (bought from Seaby in 1956 Coin & Medal Bulletin, no 619); J.Gartner, R.Jewell, I.Errey Collections, Superior sale, November 1971 (lot 594); Superior sale June 1987 (Edwards H.Metcalf Collection), a deceased estate in the USA; Australian Coin Auctions sale; to the present owner via S.Nugent.
