PENNY POSTAGE JUBILEE, 1890, in silver (65mm) by L.C.Lauer, obverse, bust of Sir Rowland Hill three quarters right, within branches, a Mulready envelope below, inscription around, reverse, bust of Queen Victoria left, crowned and veiled, within branches, a stamped Post Office Jubilee envelope below (BHM 3407, Eimer 1756). In contemporary case, edge bruise at 2 o'clock on reverse, extremely fine and very rare.

Rowland Hill (1795-1879) inventor of the 'penny post' system and a postal authority. William Mulready (1786-1863) artist and designer of postal stationery. John Thompson (1785-1866) wood engraver cut the relief in brass of William Mulready's design for the envelope.
