LUCILLA, (wife of Lucius Verus), (m.A.D.164, d.A.D. 182), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued 166, (3.09 g), obv. draped bust to right, around LVCILLA AVGVSTA, rev. around IVNONI LVCINAE, Juno Lucina enthroned to left, holding flower and child wrapped in swaddling clothes, (S.5486, RIC 770, RSC 36). Grey tone, good very fine and scarce.

Juno Lucina (the bringer of light) is the goddess who helped newborn children see the light of day and was especially associated with childbirth in the Imperial family.
