MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), posthumous issue on broad flan, silver tetradrachm, (16.69 g), Temnos mint, issued c.188-170 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin without a dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, to left oenochoe to right under vine-tendril, under arm EXENI/KOS in two lines, in exergue **GEITAS*, to right **ALEXANDROU*, (cf.S.6713, Price 1690, BMC 1690a-b, M.966, Tell Kotchek Hoard 154 ff., SNG Saroglos 431). Well centred reverse, extremely fine with traces of mint bloom, very rare.
Ex Tom Cederland, Portland USA with ticket priced (US$1250).
The last and only issue of Temnos with two full readings of the names of magistrates, they being Exenikos and Geitas.
