ZEUGITANIA, Carthage, (c.215 B.C.), billon tridrachm or one and a half shekel, (11.25 g), obv. head of Tanit to left, crowned with wreath of corn, wearing earring with triple pendant and necklace, rev. free horse standing to right, palm tree with fruit behind, line border, (cf.S.6494, Jenkins [Pl.27, 8 dates 240-230 B.C. p.135], MAA 44; cf.Lorber, "A hoard of Punic `horse and palm' billon tridrachms,"CH IX, Group 4, 210-240, SNG Cop. 190-1 [dates 264-241 B.C.], Visona 34 [notes as billon double shekel and dates 238-230 B.C.]). Full flan, slightly off centred reverse, very fine and scarce.
Probably from the same hoard as described by Lorber.
This coin type is dated by Lorber (above) to its production
during the second Punic War and certainly from about 215 to
c.210- c.200 B.C.
