INDIA, The Martiniere College - Lucknow medal, undated (late 1800s), in silver (38mm), by Magha, (Puddester 836.2.1), with suspension ring and loop, obverse, bust of General Martin to right, around 'LABORE ET CONSTANTIA' (By Toil and Perseverance), reverse, around 'LA MARTINIERE COLLEGE, LUCKNOW', in centre, 'PRESENTED TO'. Small dig in obverse field, toned, nearly extremely fine and very rare.
Puddester notes that this medal has the bust of Martin copied from that of Wyon. The medal appears to have been given in the late 1800s and perhaps early 1900s. The only silver version of this medal seen by Puddester was in the collection of a relative of N.L.Roy who runs a shop in Lucknow. He subsequently discusses the manufacturer. Puddester notes medal as RRR.
