FAUSTUS CORNELIA SULLA, (c.56 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.94 g), obv. Hercules wearing lion skin headdress to right, S C behind, rev. globe between four wreaths, lower one flanked by aplustre and ear of corn, upper one with fillet, (S.385, Cr.426/4a, Syd.882, B.Cornelia 61). Toned, good very fine and rare.

The moneyer was the son of the dictator Sulla and this type is in honour of his father. The reverse type commemorates the three triumphs celebrated by his father-in-law Pompey the Great, the fourth wreath being his corona aurea awarded in 63 B.C. Less than 30 obverse dies were used by this moneyer for this type as determined by Crawford.
