MARK ANTONY, (32-31 B.C.), silver denarius, mint moving with Mark Antony, (3.61 g), obv. praetorian galley to right with rowers etc., around ANT AVG III VIR. R.P.C., rev. legionary eagle between two standards, CHORTIVM PRAETORIARVM around, (S.1479, Cr.544/8, Syd.1213, BMC East 184, RSC 7). A few surface marks, otherwise attractive old cabinet toning, good very fine and rare legion.

The cohortes praetoriae formed the bodyguard of the commanders. They were veterans made up of horse and foot companies.
