PAIR TO AFC DOW: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 2-Lieut. S.P.Keay A.I.F. on first medal, 5763 Pte J.H.Scott. 40 Bn. A.I.F. on second medal being a substitute medal. Both medals impressed. Both medals set into a display frame, extremely fine.

Together with two large display frames, one contains a photo of 2-Lieut Keay, the other frame contains a photo of 2-Lieut Keay and another photo of his crashed aircraft, two service medals, a Memorial Plaque named to Seawood Peter Keay (polished and naming area ground out and engraved, so a renamed plaque), a Mother and Widows ribbon (AIF) with one star, two Australian Flying Corps colour patches (modern issue), a Rising Sun hat badge and embroidered AFC pilot's wings. Both photos of Keay are spotty, the large single framed photo particularly so.



Seawood Peter Keay, Public Service clerk, age 21, born at Williamstown, Vic; Enl.18Jun1916 in 4th Rfts 59Bn at Melbourne, Vic with previous service of 1 year with Senior Cadets, Home Service of 6 months with Pay Corps at Royal Park; Emb.01Aug1916; detached from 59Bn for duty with 1sr A.A.P.C. London (Aust Army Pay Corps) 29Sep1916; to France 25Apr1917 and TOS 59Bn 30Apr1917; to 5th Div HQs 30Jun1917; to AFC Training Depot at Halton Camp, East Wendover 05Oct1917 and mustered as 2/AM; graduated and appointed Flying Officer (Pilot) and to be 2/Lieutenant 16Jun1918; to No.1 R.A.F. School of Fighting at Turnberry 02Aug1918; to 4Sqn AFC 11Aug1918; WIA 22Aug1918 while returning from a patrol and having a mid-air collision near the town of Aire and admitted to 39th Stationary Hospital with fractured legs after falling from 3,000 feet; DOW 22Aug1918; buried at Aire Communal Cemetery, 7 miles N.N.W. of Lillers.



Substitute Victory Medal: James Henry Scott, labourer, age 40, born at Beaconsfield, Tasmania; Enl.04Apr1916 at Claremount, Tas; Emb.08May1916; RTA 30Jan1918; Disch.27Apr1918 as Medically Unfit.
