PELOPONNESOS, Messenia, Messene, silver hemidrachm, late 2nd century B.C. (2.20 g), obv. head of Zeus to right, with diadem, rev. ME **S* either side of tripod, all within laurel wreath, (Sear before 146 B.C.), (Grandjean 122b (not listed, p.114, illustrated plate V, obverse die D73, reverse die R102), BCD 731 [p.186], BMC 13-14 (p.110, Pl.XXII,8), McClean 6713-4 (p.444, Pl.229, 5), Sear 2849. Toned, nearly very fine and very scarce.
Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 106 (lot 3404) and previously from the BCD Collection and Peter Morris, London in October 1993.
