L. PROCILIUS, (c.80 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.76 g), obv. Jupiter laureate head to right, S.C. behind, rev. Juno Sospita walking to right, hurling spear and holding shield, erect serpent before, L.PROCILI/ F, behind, (S.306, Cr.379/1, Syd.771, B.Procilia 1). Surface marks, fine.

Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 109 (lot 3933) the D.J.Foster Collection.

Sospita is represented here in her aggressive character as protectress against the dangers of war.
