L. FARSULEIUS MENSOR, (75 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome Mint, (4.00 g), obv. diademed and draped bust of Liberty to right, S.C under chin, MENSOR. before, cap of liberty and number XXXIIII behind, rev. Roma in biga to right assisting a togate figure to mount into the chariot, scorpion below horse's feet, L. FARSVL[EI] in exergue, (S.328, C.392/1a, BMC 3306-3311, RSC Farsuleia 1 [p.47]). Toned, nearly extremely fine and rare as such.

Ex Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 107 (lot 3632) and coming from an old Hungarian collection. Also ex C. Pitchfork Collection and previously from the Duke of Northumberland Collection, sold at Sothebys, London, November 4, 1982 (lot 315 part). This is the specimen described by Rear Admiral Henry Smyth 'Descriptive Catalogue, A Cabinet of Roman Family Coins belonging to His Grace the Duke of Northumberland K.G.', published 1856.
