[I]VDAEA in exergue, Jewess seated right on ground, mourning, behind her trophy, (S.2296, RSC 226, BMC 35, RIC 15). Dark tone, nearly very fine and very scarce.

Nero appointed Vespasian special commander to suppress the Jewish Rebellion. This gave him a powerful position to press his claim for the Principate after the events of 68-69 A.D. His eldest son Titus was left in command in Judaea and completed the conquest of that province. A joint triumph was celebrated in Rome in June 71 A.D. by father and son. Full publicity was given to the victory over the Jews by the imperial coinage.
