GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), silver denarius, issued summer 241, Rome mint, (3.12g), obv.laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right of Gordian III, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. Salus standing to right, feeding snake held in her arms, around SALVS AVGVSTI, (S.8681, RIC 129A, C.325). Bright and attractive, good extremely fine and scarce.

Ex Dr. V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 109 (lot 3872) and the D.J.Foster Collection and previously from Sale 49 (lot 2253).
This is a special issue to commemorate the marriage of Gordian III and Sabina Tranquillina in the summer of 241.
