NEW ZEALAND MEDAL 1869, (undated reverse). K.Brennan 4th Waikato Mila. Engraved. Toned, fine.

Pte Kyran Brennan, labourer, age 22, born at Moat, West Meath, enlisted 05Mar1864 at Sydney; received an allotment of land at East Hamilton; in January 1872 when he applied for his NZ War Medal his address was stated as Armed Constabulary Auckland (he joined the police force in 1868); he stated he served in the field for 12 months from March1865 to April1866; it appears that Brennan moved back to Australia and in 1872 he had an address in the care of Constable John Butler at Central Police Station in Sydney. There was a Kyran Brennan sworn in as a Queensland police constable on 01Oct1873 and there are reports in 1878 of a Constable Kyran Brennan with the police force at Prahran in Victoria. Further research required to see if these are one and the same person.
