CLAUDIUS, (A.D. 41-54), AE As, Rome mint, issued A.D. 50-54, (10.58 g), obv. bare head to left of Claudius around TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P, rev. LIBERTA AVGVSTA, S C across field, Libertas standing right holding pileus, (S.1860, RIC 113, C.47). Light brown patina, has been cleaned and is now retoning, very fine and an unusual variety.
Ex Dr V.J.A.Flynn Collection and previously CNG Auction 202, lot 178. With ticket.
This coin displays an interesting error of the die engraver. The reverse shows LIBERTA instead of LIBERTAS.
