CONVICT LOVE TOKEN, created on a bronze cartwheel penny of 1797 shaved smooth on both sides, on the obverse is inscribed, 'Affectionately/presented to/Mary Ann Groves', below are overlapping hearts with an arrow through and around the outer edge is decorated with a leaf spray pattern and between each line is decorated with swirls, reverse with similar decoration around the outer edge and between the lines and in the centre is inscribed, 'Tho' absent/may you never/forget me'. Good fine.

Mary Ann Groves (alias Rennie), was convicted at Scotland at Glasgow Court of Justiciary to a term of 10 years transportation. She departed from England on 11 February 1848 on the Elizabeth and Henry and sailing via the Cape arrived at Van Diemen's Land on 30 June 1848. It was reported in The Tasmanian Colonist on Monday 31 October 1853, page 2, that she had been granted a Ticket of Leave.
