JOHN LILBURNE, trial medal, 1649, in bronze, possibly by Thomas Simon, 33mm, (10.34 g), obverse, bust of Lilburne, left, reverse, long inscription, (MI 385/3). Attractively toned, very fine and rare.
Ex Matthew Rich Collection and previously S&B Coins M82, July 1998.
Lilburne was accused of high treason and this medal was struck on the occasion of his acquittal.
