QANTAS TRAVEL POSTER FOR JAPAN, c1960, features a large, colourful rooster right on a yellow background, with a Boeing 707 passenger jet in flight at top right and at the bottom is an indication of Qantas' association at the time with B.O.A.C., TEAL and S.A.A. (small version, size approx 38x50cm). Some toning and spots at top right corner, some creases, mounting pin-holes in each corner otherwise very fine and scarce.
This poster was designed by Harry Rogers, an Australian poster artist and graphic designer who worked for Qantas from the early 1950s through to 1985. The rooster has been featured in the design as it is an important element in Japanese mythology and Shinto religion and is usually associated with the sun and solar Japanese deities, which makes it the perfect image for a poster promoting Japan, the Land of the Rising Sun.
Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
