BARRIER CHAPTER NSW MASONIC LODGE, satin and white tanned kidskin hide lodge apron with silver tassels, also three colonial engraved sterling silver sash fittings, hallmarked by colonial silversmith, Bowen & Co (of Adelaide), in a dark blue leather purse (approx 19.5x16.5cm), gold blocked edges at front and named to, 'Comp. J.F.Ferguson/Barrier Chapter,/N.S.W.', with a brass lock, decoratively engraved. Very fine.
Barrier Lodge (Chapter 16), Broken Hill, NSW was founded 13 June 1891. It surrendered its Chapter to the NSW Chapter to become part of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of NSW.
On 5 August 1891 the Masonic fraternity of Broken Hill entertained the M.W. the Grand Master, the Earl of Jersey, at the Freemasons' Hall. Worshipful Brother J.F.Ferguson was in the chair, with about 100 members of the craft in attendance. In November 1897 Worshipful Brother J.F.Ferguson delivered the address during the ceremony of laying the cornerstone of the new Masonic Hall at Broken Hill. In 1893 J.F.Ferguson held the office of District Grand Inspector of Workings.
