TITUS, as Caesar under Vespasian, (A.D. 69-79), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.46 g), obv. laureate head of Titus to right, around T CAES IMP VESP CEN, rev. PONTIF MAXIM around, Vespasian seated right on curule chair holding sceptre and branch. (cf.S.2447, RIC 553, RSC 158). Toned, very fine or better and a rare variety.

Ex Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection.
This is a rare variant of a scarce type and is most likely a mule using the reverse legend of a Vespasian denarius. Titus was only Pontifex and not Pontifex Maximus, thus his usual type carries the legend PONTIF TRI POT. Also the obverse legend CEN rather than CENS is very rare with none in the Reka Devnia hoard.
