OTTOMAN EMPIRE, 17th-18th century, wootz dagger, also known as 'Court Dagger', a side arm of the nobilities visiting the courts of the Ottoman Empire, the blade is finely fullered 35.5cm long and tapering to an acute tip, forged from good wootz (Damascus, watered) steel, the bone grips with good age patina and with a very finely chased grip strap and pommel cover, the scabbard is wood covered with black leather and mounted with very finely chased silver locket and chape, the silver parts are proof marked, total length including scabbard 45cm. Minor damage to the grip strap and a few dents on the high points of the decorative design on the silver, otherwise very fine and rare.
