OTTOMAN EMPIRE, late 18th - early 19th century, yataghan sword with 60cm Damascus blade forge welded from several twisted steel rods in a pattern known as 'Turkish Ribbon', flat back edge, the grips are bone and the bolsters as well as the grip strap are silver with filigree work, with original scabbard, velvet covered in centre with bullion strip on one side and with large chased silver locket and chape, total length including scabbard 76.5cm. Blackened areas and shallow pitted spots on the blade, some dented spots on the locket and the chape tip is replaced, otherwise very fine.
