OTTOMAN EMPIRE, 18th - 19th century, shamshir sword with a blade forged from high contrast wootz (Damascus watered) steel with strong clear pattern, blade length 79cm, bone grips with recesses for the fingers, grip strap, cross guard and scabbard mounts are silver as are the locket and chape, leather covered scabbard with its original classical spiral stitching, silver parts stamped with proof marking, the open top front edge of scabbard to enable ease of removal of blade has a drop-down guard, this loose, total length including scabbard 96.5cm. A few small spots with loss of leather on scabbard and some dents in silver locket and chape, otherwise very good.
