TRIO: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899, (type 3 reverse), - three clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg; King's South Africa Medal 1902, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902; Coronation Medal 1911. Lieut: C.F.Brace. N.S.Wales Arty: on first medal, Capt. C.F.Brace. N.S.W. Art. on second medal, Capt. C.F.Brace . N.S.W.A. on last medal. All medals engraved. Swing mounted as worn, KSA ribbon damaged, otherwise nice uniform toning, good extremely fine.

Together with a custom fitted leather case with velvet base and silk lined lid.

Entitlement to Coronation Medal 1911 confirmed. Capt. Brace was the only QSA/KSA Medal recipient to receive the Coronation Medal.

Charles Frederick Brace was born at Ballarat, Victoria. He was educated at Scots' College, Ballarat and after leaving school first came to New South Wales in 1880. In 1882 he went to England later returning to NSW and taking a commission in the artillery. On first joining he went through a 6-months' course at the depot, Victoria Barracks and following this went through a course of coast defence at South Head and in addition secured his certificate of proficiency in infantry drill. He passed for Captain (distinguished in artillery work) in 1897, a year after he gained his full lieutenancy. In 1899 he put in a 6-minths' instruction course at Middle Head and Victoria Barracks being attached to No.2 Company.

Lieutenant Brace, a special service officer for the Transvaal embarked at Sydney on Transport Moravian 17 January 1900 arriving at Cape Town 16 February and was attached to 23 Coy Royal Artillery. On 6 March he joined Pom Pom Depot at Stellenbosch as Staff Officer to Colonel Crampton, Royal Artillery. On 17 June he was placed in command of 'V' Section Pom Poms and proceeded to Johannesburg. On 8 July he was placed in command of an Armoured Train operating between Pretoria and Kroonstad. In October he was sent to reinforce Springs and assumed command of the Garrison. On 10 January 1901 he returned to Pretoria for duty and then was invalided to England on 8 July of same year. In February 1902 he took charge of a shipment of horses from Fiume, Hungary for Durban; went from there to Pretoria and joined Remount Depot. He embarked from Cape Town on S S Damascus on 23 August and arrived at Sydney 16 September 1902.
