Leslie James Hough, salesman, age 28, born at Woollahra, Sydney, NSW; Enl.14Oct1915 at Sydney Town Hall Recruiting Depot, NSW; Emb.09Nov1915; to 2, then 4 and then 5 Aux Hosp in Egypt with Hernia and mumps; trf to 56Bn 14Apr1916 and then TOS 56Bn 13May1916; to hospital at Cardiff with influenza 28Dec1916; rejoined 30Bn in France 14Dec1917; att'd from 30Bn to 8 Bde HQs 24Dec1917; RTA 08Aug1919; Disch.18Aug1919; WWII: Enl.31Mar1942 (N225556) at Randwick, Sydney, NSW; Disch.09Jun1943 as Staff Sgt ex 9Bn VDC PTD (Volunteer Defence Corps Part Time Duty).

There was no WWII medal entitlement as Central Army Records Office advised on 15Jan1951 that his service with the Volunteer Defence Corps did not qualify for the Australia Service Medal as he had only served 14 months and six days and the requirement at that time was 18 months full-time or 3 years part-time service prior to 2Sep1945. He was again told that he did not qualify for any WWII awards on 22Apr1959 when he again queried his entitlement. He would now qualify because in 1995 the qualifying period of service for the Australia Service Medal 1939-45 was reduced to 30 days full-time or 90 days part-time service.
