PAIR TO CHAPLAIN: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. Chaplain. C.T.Lynch. A.I.F. Both medals impressed. Court mounted, edge bumps at obverse bottom edge of second medal and a few small scratches on first medal, otherwise very fine.

Together with WWI Christian Chaplain's hat badge and pair of collar badges.

Charles Thomas Lynch, Anglican Chaplain Captain 4th Class of Tasmania with Reserve of Chaplains (for duration of the war), age 46, born 20Jul1872 at London, England; Enl17Feb1917 and Appt Chaplain for 'Voyage Only'; departed from Hobart, Tas with troops and then Emb.17Feb1917 from Sydney on RMS Morea, transhipped at Bombay to A47 Mashobra; Disemb.04Apr1917 at Suez and joined Details Camp Moascar at Cairo; RTA 21May1917 ex Suez; Appt terminated 26Nov1917; Re-Enl.22Mar1919 and Appt Chaplain for 'Voyage Only'; Emb.10Apr1919 from Melbourne on A64 Demosthenes; TOS of AIF in England 03Jun1919; RTA 06Oct1919; Appt terminated 26Nov1919.

Charles Thomas Lynch, after studying at Pembroke College, Oxford, was ordained a Deacon in 1914 and then a Priest by the Bishop of Tasmania. He was Curate of All Saints Church, Hobart 1914-16, Rector of Sheffield, Tasmania 1916-17, Temporary Chaplain to the Forces 1917-19, Vicar of Channel, Tasmania 1919-20, Curate of Ingham, Suffolk, England 1921-23, Rector of Wyverstone 1923-27, Rector of Elveden, Norfolk 1927-37, Permission to Officiate in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich 1939-41 and Vicar of Rendham with Sweffling, Suffolk 1941-47. Rev Lynch died in the early 1950s in England.
