Sir William John Victor Windeyer (1900-1987) was a soldier and a justice of the High Court of Australia. He served with distinction in WWII leading the 2/48th Battalion in the defence of Tobruk and was awarded the DSO. He then commanded the 20th Brigade at El Alamein and was awarded a Bar to his DSO. He then commanded the 20th Brigade in New Guinea and Borneo. In 1945 he was appointed CBE and CB in 1953. Read his complete biography in Australian Dictionary of Biography Vol 18 (MUP) 2012.
