THE KING'S PRIVATE ROADS PASS, 1737, in bronze number 581 (30mm; 10.31g), pierced for suspension, obverse, crowned Royal cypher for George II, reverse, 'The/Kings/Private/Roads/17RA(in script)37'. Nearly very fine.

The King's Private Road was a road closed to public transport. It ran between the two royal palaces, namely St. James's Palace, at the west of the City of London to Hampton Court on the Thames at Richmond, a distance of about 11 miles. The fees from the sale of passes were used to pay the gatekeepers employed to regulate traffic on the road and for road maintenance.
