OTTOMAN EMPIRE, late 18th century, shamshir sword with forged wootz (Damscus watered) steel blade 79cm long, decorated at the top with gold koftgari work, bone grips with recesses for fingers, guard decoratively engraved on both sides, small double link chain from guard to pommel, leather covered scabbard with spiral stitching and mounted with large chased silver locket and chape, both of these with some decorative engraving, two mounting loops, total length including scabbard 95cm. Some small dents on the locket and chape silver coverings, and a very small edge chip on blade, otherwise fine.
