ANTONINUS PIUS, (A.D. 138-161), AE as, (14.91 g), Rome mint, issued A.D. 143-144, obv. laureate head of Antoninus Pius to left, around ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P COS III, rev. IMPERATOR II, S C and boat in exergue, wolf standing right, head not turned back, suckling twins, (cf.S.4241 [sestertius for reverse type], RIC 734 var 2, C.448 var, Strack 943). Toned, light surface porosity, very fine and very rare.

Ex Dr V.J.A. Flynn Collection and previously M.R.Roberts with ticket.
Strack lists only four specimens, Berlin, Munich, Vienna and this example. Rare with left facing head.
