THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL AND HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA, (1888), in bronze (70mm), by J.S.& A.B.Wyon, edge inscribed, 'Awarded to Saunders, Cohoun & Coy. for Cheese, September 1888'. Some oxidation on reverse, otherwise extremely fine.
Saunders, Cohoun & Coy of Mount Gambier were awarded this medal for their cheese but in addition, they were the pioneers in the business of factory curers and in fact when they exhibited their rolled bacon and mutton hams at the Adelaide Show in September 1888 the judges were so astonished and unbelieving at the quality that they withheld first prize until a company representative went before a Justice of the Peace and made an affidavit that the meat was cured in South Australia.
