ABORIGINAL BREAST PLATE, small and thin handcrafted brass in crescent shape with neck cord attached at each end, with a few decorative inscribed markings and impressed name, 'KING OF PURFLEET'. Fine.
Purfleet is an aboriginal reserve in the Greater Taree region on the New South Wales mid-north coast's Great Lakes District about 300 kilometres north of Sydney. It was previously the site of an Aboriginal managed reserve, originally known as Sunshine Station, that was established by the Aborigines Protection Board in 1900. The original inhabitants of the Great Lakes district in this area were the Biripi, one of several tribes of the Worimi People, who lived in the area between Tuncurry, Taree and Gloucester.
