QUEENSLAND POLICE MEDAL FOR MERIT (GVR), edge inscribed, 'Sergeant Peter Lynch No.353'. No ribbon, edge bumps and heavy contact marks on rim around naming area on rim, otherwise fine.

Awarded Police Medal for Merit and also the King's Police Medal on 14 May 1914. The two medals were awarded, - 'in recognition of bravery displayed in endeavouring to arrest a thief named Beck, at Nundah, on the night of 17th March, 1913, when Beck fired from a revolver, without warning, and the revolver-bullet lodged in Lynch's thigh, where it remains. The injury was a serious one, and has seriously interfered with the Sergeant's general health. Beck was arrested next day, and was subsequently sentenced to five years' imprisonment.'

Peter Lynch, labourer, entered Queensland Police Force on 04Feb1891 at age 26; to Constable 04Feb1891; to Beenleigh 07Jun1893; to Southport 22Dec1897; to Ipswich 26Jul1901; to Nundah 24Dec1906; to Senior Constable 17Dec1910; to Sergeant 01Apr1913; to Rosalie 29Jul1913; to Roma 15Jan1914; superannuated 16Sep1914 at age 60 on recommendation of the Commissioner of Police who gave a glowing account of his service; appointed Temporary Guard at Fanny Bay Gaol 25Feb1921; later became a mounted constable in the Northern Territory; his son Anthony Peter Lynch was appointed Constable in Northern Territory Police 01Feb1928; Peter Lynch appointed Acting Pound Keeper at Darwin Pound 20Jun1928; Retired as a Constable with Northern Territory Police 31Aug1928; Died 26Apr1941 at Glengowie Private Hospital, Red Hill, Brisbane, Queensland.
