EDWARD THE CONFESSOR, (1042-1066), silver penny, pointed helmet type, Winchester Mint, issued 1053-1056, obv. bust to right, bearded, wearing pointed helmet, and holding a sceptre, EDPER D REX around, rev. voided short cross, with limbs terminating in crescents, annulet in centre, around +LIFINC ON PINCER (Lifinc of Winchester), (S.1179, North 825, BMC type vii). Red and gold patination, a strong portrait, extremely fine and scarce.
