ELIZABETH I, (1558-1603), East India Company, General Trade coinage issue or 'Portcullis Coinage', Portcullis silver two testerns (or reales), mm O, struck 1600/1, (6.63 g), obv. legend ends REGINA (Pr.3; S.2607c). Deep grey patina, very fine and very rare.

Ex Mark E. Freehill Collection, from I.S.Wright, and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 48 (lot 1975, $3100), the Colin E. Pitchfork example coming from the H.Pegg Collection, Spink Auctions London, November 19, 1980 (lot 47 £780), the R.M.Grieg Collection as sold in Spink Australia Sale 9 (lot 1674 $1300).

Of the 34 known specimens, 16 are in museums and 18 are in private collections.
