DIOCLETIAN, (A.D. 284-305), silver argenteus, Nicomedia mint, issued A.D. c.295-6, (3.27 g), obv. laureate head of Diocletian to right, around DIOCLETI ANVS AVG, rev. around VICTORIAE SARMATICAE, camp gate with four turrets ornamented with eagles, doors thrown open, in exergue, SMN**G* (S.12616, RIC 22a, RSC 492a) (illustrated); another, issued 296-298, Carthage mint, (2.61 g), obv. laureate head right, around DIOCLETIANVS AVG, rev. Africa standing facing, head left, wearing long drapery and elephant head-dress, holding standard and tusk; lion with captured bull left, FEL ADVENT AVG NN around, P in exergue, (S.12605, RIC 11a). Toning, nearly fine - nearly very fine. (2)
