OTTOMAN EMPIRE, 16th-18th century, steel-mounted Islamic wicker Kalkan shield (26cm), domed and of circular shape composed of concentric wicker woven with coloured thread, the exterior is made of radial steel bars linking the steel frame, the steel domed centre boss with rosette and five square finials, the interior set with remains of the original red fabric lining, cotton cushion, leather strap, and six iron rings for suspension. Some minor wear to the thread, otherwise in good condition for its age.
Together with a Certificate of Authenticity No.120342 from Hundred & One Antiques, Toronto, Canada.
