SICILY, Messana, (455-451 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.04 g), obv. biga of mules driven to right by seated male charioteer, Nike flying above, in exergue bay leaf with fruit, rev. MESSA NION (some letters reversed), hare running to right, branch below, (cf.S.843, Caltabiano 361 [obv.die 162, rev. die 152, 11 specimens known], SNG ANS 341). Nearly very fine, porous surface and rare.
