THRACE, Abdera, (c.450-425 B.C.), silver obol (0.57 g), obv. griffin seated left, raising forepaw, rev. quadripartite incuse square, (S.1338, May, Abdera 190-6 var. (unlisted dies), HGC 3, 1152); another Abdera, (c.411/0-386/5 B.C.), silver triobol (1.60 g), obv. griffin seated to left, right forepaw raised, [laurel-leaf below raised forepaw]. rev. bull head within incuse square. (cf.S.1531, HGC 3.2, 1150. May, Abdera, 399 (A279/RP325, SNG Cop.314). Last a very rare variety with a dark grey patina, first toned, some porosity, very fine. (2)
