CARIA, uncertain, (Mid 5th century B.C.), silver obol (0.70 g), obv. head and foreleg of lion to left, rev. eagle flying left within incuse square, (S.-, S. Hurter, "Lions and lionesses, eagles and a few heads: a new uncertain mint in Caria" in Essays Hersh, Group I, 10 (this coin), SNG Kayhan 981-2 var. [eagle right]). Very fine, toned and very rare.
