OTTOMAN EMPIRE, 16th-18th century, steel-mounted Islamic wicker Kalkan shield (28cm), domed and of circular shape composed of concentric wicker woven with coloured thread, the exterior is made up of radial steel bars linking the steel frame, steel domed centre boss with rosette and five square finials, the interior set with wood and the remains of the original red fabric lining, leather strap, and six iron rings for suspension. Some minor wear to the thread, otherwise in good condition for its age.
